Four-year driving ban for motorist caught without insurance for third time in Donegal

The man was caught driving for a third time with no insurance

A man has been disqualified from driving for four years after being caught driving without insurance for a third time in Donegal.

Miroslav Ivanov was before Glenties District Court.

Ivanov was charged with driving without insurance on July 4, 2025 at Portnoo Road, Ardara.

Inspector Tony Byrne told the court that Gardai stopped a Mercedes E-Class at 4.45pm. The driver, Ivanov, produced a full Bulgarian driving licence, but the insurance displayed on the vehicle belonged to the previous owner.

Ivanov, a 27-year-old, with an address at Hillhead, Ardara, was not covered to drive the vehicle. Gardai seized the vehicle from Ivanov.

He was ordered to produce insurance or a certification of exemption, but did not do so.

The court heard that Ivanov had two previous convictions for driving without insurance.

Judge Emile Daly fined Ivanov €500 and put him off the road for a period of four years.
