Man who failed to attend court fined for driving at 97km/h in 50km/h zone

The defendant was due to appear before An Clochan Liath / Dungloe District Court

A motorist was detected travelling at 97km/h in a 50km/h zone in Dungloe

A man who failed to attend court to face a charge of travelling at 97 km/h in a 50km/h zone has been convicted and fined in his absence. 

Reese Barton of 11 An Choill, Burrtonport was due before the February sitting of An Clochan Liath / Dungloe District Court. He is charged with exceeding the 50km/h speed limit on the R259 at Mhin Mor, Dungloe on July 21, 2025. The offence is contrary to Section 47 of the Road Traffic Act. 

An operator of the Go Safe speed detection van gave evidence of detecting the vehicle travelling at 97km/h. A Fixed Charge Notice (FCN) was issued but not paid, the court heard. 

Judge Emile Daly imposed a conviction and fine of €450, to be paid within four months.
