The man was caught driving without insurance
A man has been spared a driving ban after being found with no car insurance in Donegal.
Mercedes Rostas, a 21-year-old of The Green, Convoy, Donegal, was before Letterkenny District Court.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Gardai at Listillon, Letterkenny, stopped a vehicle being driven by Rostas at 3.30am on July 27, 2025.
Gardai made a lawful demand for Rostas to produce his insurance, but admitted to officers that he was not insured.
Mr Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for Rostas, said his client “fully accepts” the charge. He said Rostas had purchased this vehicle and had insurance on his own car.
Mr Gallagher asked Judge Emile Daly not to disqualify Rostas from driving given that he had no previous relevant convictions. Mr Galllagher added that Rostas, an unemployed father-of-two, resides in an area that lacks public transport.
Judge Daly convicted Rostas and fined him €350 allowing four months to pay.
