A book of evidence was served on the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when he appeared at Letterkenny District Court on Thursday.

The man, who has an address in the east of the county, is charged with raping the woman at a named address in 2021.

He faces a further charge of sexually assaulting the same woman on the same date.

Garda Lynda Halligan gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the accused at Letterkenny courthouse.

Sergeant Sean McDaid told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the man be sent forward to the present sitting of the Central Criminal Court.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham returned the man for trial and administered the alibi warning.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Mr John Fahy and one counsel assigned.
