Curfew remains for man charged with sabotage of community centre gas supply

A Donegal man who was charged with attempting to sabotage the gas supply of a community centre must keep observing a curfew.

Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are still awaited in the case of Charlie Lynagh.

The 72-year-old, of Tirloughan, Carrigart, is charged that on October 22, 2022 at Mevagh Hall in Carrigart he did damage two high pressure LPG rubber gas pipes belonging to Mevagh Hall.

The hall is sandwiched between a primary school and a church.

Lynagh appeared this week at Letterkenny District Court, where Sergeant Gerard Dalton said that they did not yet have directions.

Among the conditions of his bail are that Lynagh stay away from any members of the Mevagh Hall Committee and that he observe a curfew between 8am and 8pm.

His solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, asked the court to 'do away' with the curfew, but Sergeant Dalton said Gardai would be objecting to such a change.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she would hear an application to vary bail conditions on Monday next, December 19.

A video of CCTV footage of the incident, which was widely circulated on social media, allegedly shows Lynagh producing an object and using it to interfere with the rubber gas pipes leading to two large gas containers.

Lynagh was arrested at Crocknamurleog, Downings on Wednesday and taken to Milford Garda Station., where he was charged under the Criminal Damage Act.
