A man was arrested in County Tyrone in connection with the robbery of a shop in Castlefin on Thursday evening.
The 33-year-old was arrested by the PSNI after being apprehended by members of the public in a remote area close to the Donegal border.
The man was arrested on suspicion of involvement in other crimes, including the assault of a pensioner and the theft of vehicles.
At around 6.10pm, the PSNI were alerted by An Garda Síochána of a robbery had occurred at a shop in Castlefin.
A sum of money was taken in the incident. The suspect made off in a vehicle which was abandoned at a property at the Fort Road area of Castlederg.
The man was said to have entered a house in the area and took a set of keys for a Mitsubishi Shogun, which was subsequently located field at Aghalunny Road in Killeter.
It was reported that the man made his way on foot to a property at the Ballymongan Road area of Killeter and approached the back door of the house.
After gaining entry, it is alleged that he assaulted a man in his 70s and a woman in her 50s during the incident.
He then took the keys to a black Volkswagen Golf and then made off from the area.
The man was later apprehended by two members of the public and brought to police.
PSNI Detective Inspector Finlay said: “A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including burglary, taking and driving away and various driving offences. He remains in police custody at this time.
“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1455 15/12/22."
