The scheduled Donegal senior football championship game between Glenfin and Sean Mac Cumhaills has been postponed following the untimely death of Gareth Martin.
Donegal GAA’s Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) has agreed to a request for the postponement. The game was due to take place on Saturday evening at Pairc Taobhoige.
The late Mr Martin was a former Glenfin player who was joint manager of the senior team with David Carroll in 2022.
As a mark of respect, the Glenfin and Sean Mac Cumhaill clubs have suspended all activity this weekend. Cappry Rovers have also confirmed that all club activities have been suspended until further notice.
Sean MacCumhaills’ planned 5k on Thursday evening and a family fun day scheduled for Saturday have also been postponed.
The CCC say that they will ‘update both clubs when a decision on a re-fixture is in place’.
A Donegal GAA spokesperson said: “We wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Gareth’s family, wife Denise, daughter Courtney, sons Alex, Jude and Louie, parents Geraldine and Francie along with the extended Martin and Whoriskey family and to his club members, fellow players and teams under his care.
“Ar Dheis Dé go bhfuil a anam Uasal.”
Late of Welchtown, Ballybofey, Gareth’s funeral mass will take place on Saturday at 2pm in The Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Glenfin, with burial afterwards in Cill Mhuire cemetery.
