During the summer he enjoyed salmon fishing on the Erne estuary. He had a great interest in sport, especially Gaelic football and spoke keenly about the local team Abbey Shamrocks.
In the mid sixties, like many of that era he emigrated to England, traveling on to the USA shortly after that. In the USA he began working with the Local 15 iron workers union, in Hartford, Connecticut, of which he was a proud member for over fifty years.
On his retirement he moved from Hartford to New Jersey, and he split his time between there and his home in the Abbey. As an avid reader, he would be seen with his favorite newspapers, and often regaled us with interesting stories from them.
