There was Donegal joy at Croke Park on Sunday as Mayo staff member Paul Durcan celebrated as they ended their 75-year drought for the All-Ireland.
The former Four Masters clubman is the goalkeeping coach of Andy Moran’s charges, who defeated Kerry in the final by 1-20 to 1-17 on Sunday.
With Kerry 1-8 to 0-10 up at hal-time a Darragh Beirne second-half goal put Mayo into a four-point lead early after the break, and they never relinquished that advantage.
The Donegal Town native, Durcan, who is a two-time All-Star and won the All-Ireland under Jim McGuinness in 2012, didn’t have as long a wait as his Mayo counterparts, who ended a wait since 1951 to win the All-Ireland, previously losing their last 11 finals.
Durcan had previously been involved with Sligo, but was named part of Moran’s backroom team earlier this year. He coaches tthe U-9s at Drumcliffe Rosses Point GAA club in Sligo.
