The official launch of Climb Errigal Together will take place in An Chúirt Hotel, Gaoth Dobhair, this evening, Tuesday, February 15 at 7.30pm.
The Climb Errigal Together event, which will raise funds for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House, has been fixed for Saturday, April 2.
The people of Donegal are set to be part of the fundraising initiative being headed up by former RTÉ journalist, Charlie Bird, through the Climb Errigal Together event being organised by Donegal County Councillor, Ciaran Brogan.
Charlie was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and he announced on the Late Late Show he will climb Croagh Patrick on April 2, with family and close friends, in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease and Pieta House.
After watching the interview with chat show host, Ryan Tubridy, Letterkenny-based councillor, Ciaran Brogan, mooted the idea of holding a local event to coincide with the Croagh Patrick climb.
"I'm extremely grateful to the members of Donegal Motor Club to lead out with the stewarding and managing of the event along with members of Errigal Cycling Club and Donegal Civil Defence. I'm delighted to confirm that Donegal International Rally Clerk of the Course, Eamon McGee, will be the main coordinator. Eamon has vast experience in organising large events and he also has a wealth of local knowledge.
"This local event in April will give people a focus and something to look forward to. The response to the challenge to date has been unbelievable. Climb Errigal Together is not a race or a competition - it's about people coming together and getting behind two worthy charities," he said.
