A photo of the wonderful Christmas lights display in years gone by
Michael and Mary Whoriskey have brought Christmas spirit into the hearts and minds of people for almost two decades due to their phenomenal Christmas lights display and this year the lights are set to return this weekend.
The famous lights display at their home in the townland of Kerrykeel has raised around €90,000 for charities over the last seventeen years. The event signifies the begining of the festive season for many and by raising money for charity relays what the season is truly all about.
Many thought that the rising energy costs would impact the event but the couple are keen to keep the wonderful Christmas tradition alive and raise money for worthy causes.
This year their chosen charity is Donegal Down Syndrome Association and all donations, large or small, are very much welcome.
Mary said: “Because of Covid-19 we are not having the massive switch on that we always did. The last big switch on was in 2019 when there were seven or eight hundred people here.”
Mrs Whoriskey said this year things will be different as there are many cases of covid in the area. However, she is eager for the display to go ahead to raise funds for charity.

“We are raising money this year for the Donegal Down Syndrome Association. The display will be lit up from six o’clock on Saturday evening ,” she said.
