A Carrigart native who lives in London has raised €175,000 for the Donegal Hospice over the last number of years. On Wednesday, December 28, Brendan ‘Tiny’ Vaughan visited the hospice and presented staff and board members with this year’s calendar and while there his mammoth fundraising efforts were celebrated.

Brendan ‘Tiny’ Vaughan began the fundraising initiative in 2011. The well-known photographer and charity worker, began the calendar after losing his mother, Mary née Carr, Vaughan, to cancer, in 2010. She had spent nine and a half weeks in the Donegal Hospice before she passed away.

“They show people such genuine kindness. They look after people like it was their own father, mother, sister, brother, like a member of their own family,” he said.

The calendar was launched at the Donegal Association London Dinner Dance which was held in the Hilton Hotel, Wembley in London, in November.

“The month of October is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Creeslough tragedy,” he said.

Brendan has been involved with many charity fundraising events over the years and is always to the fore in organising Donegal events in London. The 2023 Donegal Hospice Calendar is currently available from the Donegal Hospice and Centra stores in Carrigart, Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh, Mickey Joes in Carrigart and at the Creeslough Shop. The calendar costs €10 and all proceeds go to the Donegal Hospice. Mr Vaughan thanked Seamus Quinn, Tim Kelly and all the calendar sponsors for their continued support of the Donegal Hospice.

The cover of this year’s publication is a beautiful photograph of Trá na Rosann.
