A person reported missing from the Sliabh Liag area has sadly been found deceased following a major search operation.
Killybegs Coast Guard crew were tasked by Malin Head Maritime Search and Rescue Communications (MRSC) at around 5pm on Tuesday, February 24, following the report of a missing person at Sliabh Liag.
A spokesperson for Killybegs Coast Guard outlined the operation that ensued, saying: Following an initial search by R118 assisted by An Garda Siochana it was decided to return to base.
“At first light R118 searched the area again and located an area of significance.
“Bunbeg Coast Guard Drone Team were called in and provided top cover in the area to be searched.
“Our climbing team located the casualty and safely transferred them to the top of the summit where they were met by a Doctor and subsequently pronounced deceased.
“Killybegs Coast Guard wish to express their sympathy to the deceased person's family.
“We wish to thank R118, An Garda Siochana, Bunbeg Coast Guard Drone Team for their assistance and cooperation during the search.”
Members of the public are reminded that if they see anyone in difficulty and in need of assistance in the water or on shore call 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
