The number of people undertaking apprentices is set to dramatically increase, according to Vinny McGroarty of the Education and training Board (ETB).
A recent ETB meeting heard that 2, 218 are currently undertaking apprenticeships nationally with this number set to double by 2018.
During a presentation, Mr, McGroarty, said that the number of people undertaking courses presently in Donegal is 300 but that this number will increase in the near future.
New apprenticeships are set to come on stream. A new incentive to the programme is that employers will have to pay those who take apprenticeships in the future.
Apprenticeship courses can educate students to a Masters level.
Mr. McRoary said that up to one hundred new courses will become available by 2020.
Councillor Michael McBride welcome the news adding that he would like to congratulate all those involved in the programme.
