Christmas Fair
Transition Year students are busy organising a TY Christmas Fair which will take place on December 7th as a whole-year enterprise project. A range of products produced by TY students will be available: Christmas bobbles and logs,  crafts, cakes, muffins, buns, brownies and cookies to name but a few. Other local producers will also be invited to participate. Coláiste Cholmcille students will have an opportunity to visit the fair in the morning, with primary schools invited in the early afternoon, and parents later in the day. This is the first time that such a large-scale project has been developed by the TY Enterprise team, and we wish them the best of luck!

Ulster Finals

The Under-16 Boys' Gaelic football team has qualified for the Ulster quarter finals which are due to be played this week, having recently beaten Carrick 2-06 to 0-06. The upcoming match is expected to be good challenge for the boys but coach Mr. Mc Glynn feels confident that they will perform well on the day and says he has high hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the competition. 

Dermot Earley Leadership

On Monday a number of TY students took part in the Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative. This is open to people aged 15-17 who are members of the GAA or Foróige and have an interest in leadership. The Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative (DEYLI) is named after the late Dermot Earley, one of Ireland’s most inspirational leaders and esteemed GAA inter-county player.

Choral Championships

Best of luck to the Coláiste Cholmcille Choir on Friday as they compete in the Sligo Choral Championships. This is the first time that the choir has entered the competition and we wish them every success.

TY Cycle
The annual TY Cycle will take place this Sunday, Nov. 13th, for all Transition Year students, staff and parents/guardians. The cycle is a fundraiser for TY activities throughout the year. Cyclists will start at the school at 12pm, travel to Tullaghan and return to the school for refreshments. This is always an enjoyable day for everyone taking part. The TY Cycle is also part of the school's ongoing Healthy Schools Initiative and we would like to encourage all staff or parents/guardians to take part. 

TYs in Donegal Youth Theatre Festival 
TY students were very busy over the mid-term break learning lines, digging around in wardrobes for costumes and finding props for the upcoming Donegal Youth Theatre Festival. Miss Garvey's class will produce an adaptation of Marina Carr's 'The Bog of Cats', complete with dead black swan, while Mr. Beattie's class will present 'Check Please!' which is a light-hearted comedy about dating. The festival will take place in the Balor Arts Centre, Ballybofey on November 17th. Coláiste Cholmcille has a strong tradition of taking part in the competition, and we're delighted that the Butt Drama Society continue to run the festival.

'Hamlet' Screening for Leaving Certs
Higher Level Leaving Certs studying 'Hamlet' this year will attend a screening of the play next week. This is the National Theatre's production of the play which was originally performed and simultaneously broadcast live last year, starring Benedict Cumberbatch of 'Sherlock' fame. The screening provides an excellent opportunity for revision of the play.
