New private addiction treatment centre to open in Termon

The north west’s first private residential addiction treatment centre is due to open in Termon later this month.

The new facility is the first of its kind in the region and will be run by Managing Director Angela Maguire, who has been involved with teaching, counselling and addiction treatment for over 30 years.

Originally from Scotland, Angela has strong links to the county with her mother Bridget Jordan, nee Ferry, hailing from Dunlewey.

Operational Manager at the new facility, which will offer residential in-house treatment for up to seven people as well as day therapy sessions, is Termon local Mary Gallagher who has returned to the area after working in London for Rolls Royce for many years.

The privately owned company has built a purpose built state-of-the-art centre that will offer various therapies for addictions, stress management, and abuse victims.

Angela, who has run a number of successful companies in the UK says she and her team are looking forward to opening for business.

A qualified psychologist, Angela says the De Exeter House is nondenominational and their primary focus is their clients treatment in a caring and professional environment.

The construction work began a year an a half ago on the “tailor made” building that she says complies with all modern health and safety requirements, as well as having comfortable bedrooms, lounge rooms, dining room as well as dedicated meditation room.

She says she saw an opportunity to create the centre after working in counselling in the corporate sector and after looking a number of properties she settled on building her own centre in Termon, whose name translates as “place of sanctuary”.

“I had been thinking about this because I felt this was something missing from my corporate work. I kept thinking ‘I really wish there was something like this I could send people to because it is what they needed’. I then thought well if it is not there, create it. I initially looked at properties already built such as big houses but then I looked at the need for getting it right,” Angela explains.

Among those attending the official opening event at September 23 will be former Scottish International footballer, Andy McLaren who received treatment with Angela following his long battle with alcohol and drug addiction. A former player at Dundee United and Reading his book “Tormented” details his life and career and his recovery from his addictions through Angela’s help.
