Dylan Browne McMonagle was named the winner of the Overall 2025 Donegal Sports Star Award in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Friday night.
The Letterkenny jockey, who also won the award in 2024, becomes only the third person to win the Overall Award back-to-back following in the footsteps of Billy Bourne (1990-91) and Mark English (2014-15).
Browne McMonagle beat off the competition with a five-strong shortlist, including Mark English, Finnbarr Roarty, Jim Doherty, and Rhys Irwin.
2025 was however undoubtedly Dylan’s most successful year to date claiming the Irish Senior Flat Jockey title for the first time after 95 winners to overtake six-time champion Colin Keane and proudly receive his trophy at the Curragh.

His year was highlighted by a Group 1 victory in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger aboard Al Riffa, a spectacular ride that confirmed his status at the top level of Irish racing. On the international stage, Dylan achieved a career milestone with his first Breeders’ Cup success, winning the Grade 1 Longines Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California.
Dylan rode the unfancied 25/1 shot Ethical Diamond for legendary trainer Willie Mullins, pocketing a cool $2.9 million in prize money.
The 22-year-old was unable to attend the event as he is currently racing in Hong Kong, but his father, John, accepted the award on his behalf.
He also picked up the Equestrian award on the night, his sixth time doing so.
