Donegal have won the Dr McKenna Cup nine times in the past. Chris McNulty takes a whistle stop tour back in time

The margin here should, said the Democrat, have been ‘twelve or thirteen, based on superiority’ as Donegal overcame Ulster champions Down in Dungannon.

Donegal were wasteful and a goal by Sean O’Neill had Down in front by six points at one stage in the first half. After Sean Ferriter was moved to midfield, Donegal reduced the arrears, 1-5 to 0-5, at half-time.

Neilly Gallagher hit four points in the second half as Donegal took the win.
