Three Donegal athletes will line up at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
Finn Valley AC trio John Kelly, Mark English and Brendan Boyce will all be in action at the Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Kelly was a late inclusion following the St Johnston man’s breaking of the Irish shot put record last week.
Kelly threw out to 20.16m when competing at the Cork City Sports. He is now ranked in the top 25 shot putters in Europe and the 26-year-old will go at the Hayward Field this week.
The qualification rounds in the men’s shot put take place Friday afternoon.
English, a three-time European medalist, has been in fine fettle of late with impressive outings in Belgium, England and Spain on top of winning his eighth Irish senior outdoor 800m title.
The men’s 800m heats take place next Wednesday, July 20.
Boyce will line up in the 35k race walk on the final day of competition, July 24.
Boyce finished tenth in the 50k race walk at the Olympic Games in August, in a time of 3:53:40 and was sixth at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. The 50k event has been removed from competition and Boyce now goes over the shorter 35k distance.
