Donegal unites for Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

The Donegal event will take place at Dromboe Woods in Ballybofey, with walkers gathering at Jackson’s Hotel car park on Sunday morning
County Donegal will again proudly host an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva this year as part of the nationwide event taking place on Sunday, September 20, ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on Monday.
The Donegal event will take place at Dromboe Woods in Ballybofey, with walkers gathering at Jackson’s Hotel car park (F93 RD40) at 11.30am to begin a scenic 1–5km route through the forest.
Now in its seventh year, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva is more than just a fundraiser - it’s a celebration of connection, compassion, and community. In 2025, almost 3,000 walkers took part in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva, raising over €240,000 to help fund vital ASI services including Daycare, Family Carer Training, Social Clubs, Dementia Cafés and the National Helpline.
Local Champion Jennifer Carr will lead the Donegal Memory Walk, walking in memory of her beloved grandmother and in support of all those currently living with dementia.
“I'm proud to be leading our annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva to help fund local dementia services in Donegal,” said Jennifer. “This walk is personal for me as I walk in memory of my grandmother and for all those who are living with dementia today. The event is about community and helping spread awareness by walking together to raise vital funds for care, support, and hope for the days ahead. Join me on Sunday, 20th September in Ballybofey to show your support.”
With over 40 events taking place across Ireland, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva is a powerful reminder of the strength found in community. Whether you walk in memory of a loved one, in support of someone living with dementia, or simply to show solidarity, your support makes a difference.
