Woman given a chance after concert ticket con

A Letterkenny woman who conned a man out of €90 for a concert ticket has been given a chance to avoid a conviction.

Letterkenny District Court heard how Rosalyn Stewart advertised Longitude tickets for sale online .

Jordan Smith agreed to buy and transferred €90 into Stewart's account on June 25, 2018.

No tickets were posted and Stewart failed to answer calls or texts. Mr Smith subsequently made a complaint and Gardai spoke to Smith.

Stewart appeared in court on a charge of dishonestly by deception inducing Mr Smith to pay €90 for a ticket knowing that it did not exist.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Stewart has no previous convictions.

Mr Frank Dorrian, representing Stewart, said his client kept poor company at the time.

“This was a scam not of her invention, but she participated,” Mr Dorrian said.

“It was rife around that event and it was something that gained traction. She made a poor decision.”

Mr Dorrian said Stewart was 'heavily addicted' at the time, but has been clean and sober since attending counselling.

Stewart brought €90 to court by way of compensation for Mr Smith.

Noting that the accused had no previous convictions and had not come to adverse attention since, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said Stewart could avoid a conviction if she made a €250 contribution to Donegal Hospice by June 26.

A default order of a conviction and a fine of €350 was put in place.
