A man who was found by Gardai ‘shadow boxing’ in the middle of a Letterkenny road has been fined.

Alan Gormley appeared at Letterkenny District Court in connection with an incident at High Road, Letterkenny on March 30, 2022.

Garda Kerry Leneghan told the court how she was on patrol at 11.52pm when she observed Gormley shadow boxing in the middle of the road.

Gormley, a 44-year-old of Cluain Ard, Killyclug, Letterkenny, was charged with an offence contrary to section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994.

Garda Leneghan said Gormley was highly intoxicated and was stumbling when she approached him. Gormley, whose speech was slurred, was believed to be a danger to himself and others.

He was conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station and a fixed charge penalty notice (FCPN) was issued, but went unpaid.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said she found the facts proven in the case.

Gormley was convicted and fined €100 with five months to pay.
