A woman who has returned to live in China is to be given a chance to deal remotely with a case of alleged tax evasion in Donegal.

The case of Yong Lin was before Letterkenny District Court this week.

Lin, formerly of Fairgreen Park in Letterkenny, is charged with being concerned in, or being reckless as to whether or not she was concerned in facilitating the fraudulent evasion of tax. The offence is contrary to section 142 of the Finance Act 2005.

The alleged offence is dated July 2, 2018.

State solicitor for Donegal, Mr Kieran Dillon, told the court that Lin is living in China and the matter goes back ‘some considerable time’. Mr Dillon said Lin has engaged with his office.

Lin has difficulties with a Visa, the court heard.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said that the matter has gone on for a significant period, but Lin should be offered a chance to deal with it via a virtual meeting room (VMR).

The case was adjourned to October 2nd. Judge Cunningham asked Mr Dillon to give Lin the opportunity to attend.

“The matter will proceed,” Judge Cunningham said.
