Man in court over Letterkenny money laundering charge

A man charged with a money laundering offence in Letterkenny has been arrested after a bench warrant was executed.

Oluwasina Omoniya was brought before Letterkenny District Court.

Twenty-one-year-old Omoniya, of Ashlawn Court, Swords, met Gardai by arrangement at Letterkenny courthouse.

Detective Garda Derek Connaughton arrested Omoniya on foot of a bench warrant. Omoniya was subsequently cautioned and charged.

Omoniya is charged that on January 6, 2022 at Port Road, Letterkenny, did engage in transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing or using property that was the proceeds of criminal conduct, to wit €100 cash while knowing that or believing that or being reckless as to whether or nor the said property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The offence is contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.

Omoniya was represented by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher.

Bail was granted in Omoniya’s own bond of €200, nil cash, with the accused to provide Gardai with a telephone number and be contactable 24/7. He must also notify Gardai of any change of address.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham adjourned the case until December 4 next for directions.
