Call for speed vans on Bundoran-Ballyshannon bypass

There are calls for more speed vans on the Bundoran-Ballyshannon bypass.

A County Councillor has called for more speed vans to be located on the Bundoran-Ballyshannon bypass.

Bundoran-based Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey McMahon raised the issue at a meeting of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) on Friday in Lifford.

“I often wonder why speed vans are not out in the middle of the night,” Councillor McMahon said. “They are not out at times where speeding is really going on. Is there any way that we could get the speed vans on the bypass?

“This is a cause for concern.”

Councillor McMahon also highlighted issues with cars speeding in car parks in Bundoran town.

He said: “The speeding of cars in towns is upsetting and annoying. The Gardai have apprehended some guys in the car parks. A lot of the time when you go into town in the morning you can see the tyre tracks. It is dangerous and it is a very annoying situation.

“It is also annoying for people who want to walk between 9-11 at night. It is getting worse and this has been a problem in Bundoran for a number of years. Accidents are waiting to happen.”

Chief Superintendent Aidan Glacken told Councillor McMahon that the speeds vans come from an independent company.

“I do see speed vans in the hours of darkness,” he said. “We can advise on locations.”
