Two men have been charged with the theft of two bottles of whiskey from an Aldi store in Letterkenny.
The accused appeared before Judge Ciaran Liddy at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court on Monday afternoon.
Andrejs Hincenbergs and Dmitrijs Antosevskis were arrested by Gardai at 2pm on Monday at De Valera Road, Letterkenny.
When charged, Andrejs Hincenbergs said ‘I am very sorry’ while Dmitrijs Antosevskis made no reply.
Both are charged with a Section 4 theft of one bottle of Jameson whiskey and one bottle of Powers whiskey, the property of Aldi.
Garda Sergeant Jim Collins said there was no objection to bail in either case with the condition that both men provide a mobile phone number to Gardai on which to be contactable.
Their solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, asked for the case to be adjourned until February 26, 2024 for jurisdiction in the case and/or election by the men.
Mr Gallagher also applied for free legal aid for the men, who are Russian nationals with addresses at Cluain Ard, Letterkenny.
Judge Liddy adjourned the case and granted legal aid.
