Raphoe Community Playground and (inset) the parts of the fence were strewn across the facility
The Raphoe Community Playground was targeted by vandals this week - and operators have warned that the amenity could close if it continues.
Volunteers arrived at the playground on Tuesday morning to find that an incident of wanton vandalism tore a series of green strips from the perimeter fence.
Shards of the material were strewn across the playground, which is for use by children under 12.
Members of the Raphoe Tidy Towns group helped to clean up the mess.
“The amount of broken strips can only be categorised as vandalism,” a spokesperson said.
“If it continues the playground will close until an alternative to the green strips is found.”
The playground, located at St Eunan’s Terrace adjacent to Raphoe Boxing Club, first opened in 2014 and in March, 2022 reopened under the guidance of Donegal County Council.
The public has been asked to forward any information to An Garda Siochana.
