Fundraising drive underway for the 'amazing' Olivia Robb of Newtowncunningham

A fundraising drive is underway to help “an amazing woman” living in Newtowncunningham, who has recently been diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

Olivia Robb (nee Conlon), wife of Brendan Robb, is originally from Woodvale, Sligo and has been living in Donegal since 1994. Olivia is a familiar face in Penney's Letterkenny, where she has worked for the last 30 years. Olivia's friends and family want to support her in any way they can.

Local councillor Paul Canning has set up a GoFundMe titled ‘Help the Robb family’.

“A young Newtown family needs our help. Olivia Robb, wife of Brendan Robb, is battling Motor Neuron Disease,” he posted. “This diagnosis has led to significant and immediate challenges for the family, emotionally, practically, and financially.

“Olivia's vibrant personality is well-known and adored by those around her. She is a great person and is an exceptional mother to her 13-year-old daughter, a young girl of huge talent and character, reflecting the best qualities of both Olivia and Brendan.

“There is no cure for this horrible disease, and as it progresses, Olivia's journey becomes increasingly difficult. Her condition now needs constant care, resulting in substantial changes to her daily life and as a result, she needs adapted transport, medical equipment and accommodation for multiple hospital appointments in Dublin.

“All this has a huge financial cost and is a stress that we as a community could hopefully help to alleviate. We greatly welcome and appreciate any donations and assistance in supporting Olivia and her family during this challenging time.

Olivia’s friends have also organised a raffle, which will take place on February 14. The first prize is £300 voucher for Galgorm Hotel and Spa; the second prize €300 voucher for Spilt Ink Tattoos and the third prize is a case of M&S 22-carat sparkle wine - thanks is expressed to Kevin McCauley, who came forward and offered up this voucher from his own business in Newtoncuningham.

“Olivia is an amazing woman,” one of the organisers, Claire McCafferty posted. “She is so compassionate to others and is literally the bravest woman I know.”

“Any support is very much appreciated. Raffle tickets are £10 each or £20 for three - euro or pound is fine. The raffle will take place on Valentine’s Day, a day to share love.
