Habinteg Housing Association Ireland CLG has announced the progression to tender stage for their development of 34 mixed housing units at Raphoe Road, Castlefinn.

This is a CAS-funded project in conjunction with Donegal County Council and the Department of the Environment. The Association is based in Lifford and has been running a 53-unit mixed housing development since 2008.

Stephen Shevlin, CEO of the Association has welcomed the development and thanked all those involved for bringing it to this stage.

The chairman, Packie Keeney said this has been a long time in planning and development, but we are delighted that we are at this stage and hope to commence building in the next quarter.

He said: “Habinteg Housing Ireland CLG is an Approved Housing Body and a not-for-profit charity providing quality homes to people in housing need. We are based at Lifford and we have a green field site for new units at Castlefinn Co Donegal. We are delighted to announce that we have just gone to tender for the new units at Castlefinn.

“The proposed construction commencement date is May 24. When completed this will bring 34 much-needed, new housing units to the Finn Valley Area of Donegal. These homes will feature innovative design elements, energy-efficient technologies, and high-quality materials to ensure comfort, durability, and environmental responsibility for residents.

“We are excited to embark on this new venture which will contribute to the growth and development of the organisation and housing in the area. Our focus is not only on building houses but on creating homes where families can thrive and make lasting memories.”

Of a total of 34 homes, 10 are for sheltered housing, 10 Intellectual Disability and 14 General Needs homes. The new homes will offer a range of floor plans to accommodate the various lifestyles and preferences. Each home has been thoughtfully designed to maximise space utilisation and natural light, providing a welcoming and functional living environment. Construction of the homes is expected to be completed by December 2025.
