Approval for the development of 34 social housing units in Castlefinn to go to construction has been given by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Welcoming the news, Donegal minister, Charlie McConalogue, said: “This is really positive news for the Castlefinn area and it’s great to see another new housing scheme in Donegal getting the go-ahead. This new development will help many families in the community with their housing needs.”
“I’d like to thank Cllr Patrick McGowan for his work on this project. It was Cllr McGowan who identified the site for development a number of years ago.”
Commenting on the approval for tender, Cllr McGowan said: “I first proposed this site to the Habinteg Housing Agency over 15 years ago. This site close to Castlefinn is easily accessible and near all services at the Castlefinn Partnership Initiative Centre, shops and bus routes.
“Great credit goes the Habinteg Housing Association committee for sticking with this project over a very long time. We are all looking forward now to seeing construction works starting.”
