The talk on Hughie Gillespie will be given by Raphoe man Martin McGinley

The next meeting of the Ballybofey, Stranorlar & District Historical Society will focus on the famous fiddle player Hughie Gillespie.

The meeting takes place in the Henderson Hall in Stranorlar (F93 XV29) on Monday, September 23, at 8pm.

Hughie was very well known on both sides of the Atlantic having emigrated to New York in 1928 and returning to his native Ballybofey in 1964.

Hughie made numerous recordings over his lifetime. The talk will be given by Raphoe man Martin McGinley, who himself is a very accomplished fiddle player and former editor of the Derry Journal and the Donegal Democrat. Martin will be joined by a few people who would've known Hughie very well. Everyone is welcome to this free event.
