An Adult Literacy Awareness training session aimed at people who work with the public has been rescheduled and will now take place on Wednesday, February 5, from 11am to 12.30pm, at the Community Links Hub.

The short training, delivered in partnership with Donegal ETB Adult Literacy for Life and the Creeslough Community Association, is designed to raise awareness around adult literacy and provide practical guidance for those who regularly engage with members of the public. The event was originally scheduled to take place on Monday.

Organisers highlight that one in five adults struggles to read and understand everyday text, making literacy awareness an important skill for frontline staff and community workers.

Participants will learn how to be literacy aware and literacy friendly in their day-to-day roles, how to write information in plain English, and how to confidently and sensitively signpost adults to appropriate supports for help with reading and writing. The session is informal, accessible and suitable for anyone who may encounter adults experiencing literacy difficulties in their work.

The training is free of charge, but registration is required. Organisers are encouraging anyone who works with the public and would like to better support adults with literacy needs to sign up and attend.
