Homes Sought by young cats at Animals In Need

Animals In Need Donegal have many fantastic adult cats and big kittens currently seeking homes but at the moment, many potential adopters are waiting for small kittens to become available.

It is such a shame that these lovable young adults are being overlooked when all they are hoping for is a home to call their own.

The cats waiting patiently in their foster homes include Sullivan, who is described by his fosterer as chatty and an all-round adorable boy.

He was found straying in Killybegs recently, covered in ticks and extremely hungry, but he is now fully fit and ready for a new home.

Colin the cat is also a chatterbox and is a super-friendly tri-pod as he had an injured leg when he was found which unfortunately did not heal and had to be amputated by a vet.

Adorable collies like Sailor are waiting in the Dog Pound

This does not stop him getting around one little bit, and he will make an amazing companion cat. Some of the other cats waiting to be chosen are Jack, who is a friendly, charming boy, Imogen is a big, playful kitten, Louie is a friendly, affectionate boy, Mia is a timid big kitten, Emily is young, gentle and friendly, and finally, there are twin sisters, Alannah and Juliette, who are still big kittens and very playful.

All of these cats are neutered, wormed, microchipped and litter-trained and have received at least their first vaccination and most have been tested for FIV/FELV.

Kittens are undeniably cute, but they don’t stay small for long, so if you could offer a home to any of AIN’s cats, please contact the cat helpline.

Six-month old, fluffy cat Damien was rescued recently with fur so matted that he had to be shaved.

He was very frightened when he arrived but he has settled in well and loves being petted.

Damien will be a stunner when his fur grows back and he is also ready to find his new human family.

Also at the cattery, black cat Muffin is healing well after surgery to remove her mammary glands which were covered in tumours.

However, Muffin started to wash her stitches and therefore currently has to wear a body suit to stop her getting at the stitches so that they can heal.

A stray mother cat and her two kittens have also been taken in to AIN’s care.

The ginger boy kitten is almost twice the size of his little tabby sister, but both are feeding well and the family has settled in the nursery.

Three older kittens were also brought to the cattery, rescued from a hoarding case.Sadly, their father was in a bad way when he arrived, so neglected and sick that the vet that assessed him had no choice but to put him to sleep to end his suffering.

Meanwhile, the dog rescuers are extremely busy, with calls coming in on a daily basis from people wanting to surrender their pets.

The Letterkenny Pound is constantly being filled with unwanted dogs, mostly collies, and AIN are appealing to anyone who is thinking of adding a dog to their family to go to the Dog Shelter in Glencar and offer an unwanted dog a second chance.

There are so many hopeful dog faces looking out at you when you visit, each one asking to be chosen, that it is heart-breaking.

An AIN volunteer travels to the Letterkenny Pound every week to take out the dogs that have not been reclaimed within 5 days and haven’t been adopted and then tries to find them homes, but it is a never ending task.

Finally, AIN were shocked by the theft of an angle grinder that workmen were using at AIN’s Charity Shop in Donegal Town.

Thankfully, due to CCTV in the area, the culprit was quickly identified and the matter is now in the hands of the Gardaí. The angle grinder has been recovered.

To help AIN’s animals, please donate €2 to AIN’s ‘Help Us To Help Them’ fundraising appeal via your phone by texting the word ‘KITTEN’ to 50300. Every last cent goes directly to the rescued animals for their food, bedding, vet bills, worming treatment and vaccinations.
