It took a late two point free from Jack Gillespie to win this match for the Killygordon men. Gaels had another chance to clinch a draw with another two point attempt but failed to convert what was to be the last action.
Red Hughs opened brightly and were 1-3 to the good after 15 minutes with points from Peader McGlinchey, Calvin Bradley and Jack Gillespie. The goal coming from Colm Melaugh.
The home side eventually settled with points from Liam McAlary, Brian Diver (2) and Rowan Smith, while a Jack Gillespie free and Cahir Browne (2) left the half time score Red Hughs 1-6 Gaels 0-4.
The home side were much improved after the break and responded with two Rowan Smith points in the opening minutes and a Brian Diver point.
Liam Carlin and Gillespie responded for the visitors to leave four between them.
Gaels then kicked four in a row from Shay Doherty, Conor Browne,(2) and Rowan Smith to level. However, Gillespie had the final say with a long range two pointer late on.
