1: Absences felt as kick-outs late on were key

A lot of talk in the build-up to Saturday was on the fitness of Shaun Patton, and as he took to the field for the warm-up but didn’t partake, it came as no surprise that he was replaced in the team by Gavin Mulreany. The St Naul’s man stepped up to the plate against Tyrone in Patton’s absence in last year’s Ulster semi-final, but Patton was a big loss at the weekend, particularly coming down the stretch as Donegal failed to win their kick-outs late on. The absence of Jason McGee, as well as the injury to Caolan McGonagle, along with Hugh McFadden coming off all gave Mulreany fewer options to find in his defence, but McGuinness will be hoping to get Patton and the other injured men back sooner rather than later.
