Jim McGuinness watches on at Breffni Park where his side defeated Cavan
Jim McGuinness says he'd prefer if Donegal's All-Ireland SFC round-robin clash against Mayo is kept out of Croke Park.
Donegal and Mayo square off in the final series of fixtures in Group 1 the weekend after next with Tyrone and Cavan still very much in the mix, all four teams can still top the group.
With Donegal winning 3-26 to 1-13 at Breffni Park against Cavan, it was mooted that Donegal's clash with Mayo may form part of a Croke Park double-header, with Galway and Armagh.
Other possibilities mentioned for Donegal against Mayo are Hyde Park in Roscommon, Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon, Clones' St Tiernach's Park, or Breffni Park in Cavan. The CCCC (Central Competitions Control Committee) of the GAA will announce details in the coming days.
The clash with Mayo will be Donegal's first game in seven against non-Ulster opposition, having played Derry and Tyrone in Ballybofey; Monaghan, Down and Armagh in Clones and then Cavan away from home thus far.
"No, we wouldn’t be happy with Croke Park," McGuinness said on Sunday. "Our supporters have been through the ringer financially up to this point. It’s not easy getting there, it’s expensive to stay there and so on. But there are more important people than me making those decisions."
