Red Hughs are looking forward to Division Two football again next season following Saturday evening's top of the table clash win over Naomh Brid in Trummon.

Pauric McMenamin and Colm Melaugh scored the goals in the seven-point win over the locals. Cathair Browne, Calvin Bradley, Oisin Duffy, Jonny and Liam Carlin were the point scorers for the men from the Cross.

Red Hughs laid the foundation for the win with a power-packed first half performance that saw them go in at half-time, ten points to the good. The half-time score was Red Hughs 2-5, Naomh Brid 0-1 as the home side were on the back foot for most of the opening 30 minutes.

But they put in a spirited second-half performance and they outscored the winners 0-8 to 0-5 in the second period.

Their ninth straight win moves Red Hughs onto 18 points in the Division Three League table.

They are sitting on 18 points, four ahead of Burt and Naomh Brid who have dropped down to third place following Saturday’s game.

Burt and Naomh Brid are on 14 points with Naomh Brid having a similar number of games played as Red Hughs while the unbeaten Burt have two games in hand on both of them.

With just two games remaining and in the case of Burt, four, after Saturday’s win Red Hughs are guaranteed one of the two automatic promotion places.

The third-placed teams play in a promotion-relegation place with the third last Division Two team.
