Stylish Dunleavy drives Glenswilly to victory over St Eunan's in Division 1

Kealan Dunleavy scored 0-8 for Glenswilly as they picked up the points against St Eunan's, although the Letterkenny side did have some complaints late on the game having been denied an equaliser

Some Kealan Duleavy magic got Glenswilly over the line against neighbours St Eunan’s in Division 1 of the All-County Football League.

With three minutes to go, it looked as though Eoin McGeehin had levelled for the team from Letterkenny at 1-14 apiece, only for referee Enda McFeely to blow to penalise the St Eunan’s forward for overcarrying.

The away support in black and amber were vocal, as were those involved and they also claimed McGeehin was fouled in the build-up. However, the free was brought forward and from almost 55 metres, Dunleavy nailed it and just for good measure planted over another two-pointer from play to bring his haul to eight points.

And although Oran Winston at the other end then scored his second from outside of the arc, a free from Daithi Gildea wrapped up a home win for Glenswilly.

Barry Meehan’s team settled quicker, going 1-1 to 0-0 up within three minutes. After Peter Devine opened the scoring, Padraig McGettigan got in for a goal following a break into the Glenswilly half by Noah Barrett.

Donal Gallagher scored a fine long-ranger to get the hosts in motion and Oisin Crawford added a second. Shaun Wogan’s goal, when he glanced a slap home, came when Liam McGinley had laid the ball in. Points followed at either end and at the break, Glenswilly were one to the good, 1-8 to 1-7, with Wogan’s point before the whistle the difference.

With the impressive Mark Bonner and Gildea introduced for the second half, Glenswilly had plenty in attack, with both impressing. St Eunan’s, by the end of the third quarter were still one down, 1-11 to 1-10.

Bonner, with a classy 47th minute score, Mikey Toner and Oisin McGrenra from a tight angle pushed Glenswilly’s advantage out to three, only for McGettigan and Winston to take it back to one with three to play. McGeehin had been a constant outball for the Donegal SFC holders and, in an entertaining contest on a beautiful evening for football, pulled the trigger only to see it ruled out and it was Glenswilly who didn’t hang about to finish things out.
