Burt 0-9 Dungloe 4-23
Rampant Dungloe had a massive win over Burt’s second string at Hibernian Park.
Ex-county star Richie Ryan led the scoring stakes, hitting 1-9 in a totally dominant display from the Gaeltacht men.
Burt tried hard to match their opponents but they were pretty much outgunned all over the field.
Fintan O’Toole hit 1-2, Eoghan Walsh hit 1-3, James Hartnett hit 2-3 and Sean O’Donnell hit 0-3 and this win is a big boost to Dungloe, who had a healthy lead at the break.
Team manager Ronan Mulligan said it was a most welcome win for his side.
“You need to start off well in this Intermediate competition.
“It gives good encouragement and it gives a good lift to the boys so if you did not start well it could come back to haunt you.
“It’s an Intermediate championship and the six teams play off and after six weeks, the top four go into the semi-final of the Intermediate championship and the bottom two go into the junior.
“It is the best system we have had in Donegal hurling in many years as it means that every team is getting more games and they also have something to play for at the end of the championship.
“It gives everyone six or seven or eight games.”
But Dungloe were minus Brendan Boyle, Conor Diver and Odhran McGonagle missing.
“It was a great display but we play Setanta at home next week and that could be a tough affair.
“But it is great that we have Richie Ryan back and he is our talisman.
"It is great to have him on the field and he is a great boost for the young boys."
Meanwhile, the other scheduled game between Setanta and Aodh Ruadh was postponed.
