Marc Ó Sé and, inset, Donegal's Finnbarr Roarty
Marc Ó Sé says Finnbarr Roarty’s breakout season is almost unique and that you have to look at some very unique and illustrious company to find comparison.
The five-time All-Ireland winning Kerry defender has looked on with real admiration at the Donegal teenager’s progress.

However, now that Donegal are standing between the Kingdom and Sam Maguire, Ó Sé says his native county are going to have to find a way to curb Roarty and other roving Donegal defenders like Ciaran Moore and Peadar Mogan.
“To me it’s off the charts,” Ó Sé says on Roarty’s rise. “I always felt that getting into any senior intercounty set-up, it would take at least a year to find your way.
“But Jim McGuinness seen something in Roarty, so much so he brought him in that early that it turned out he wasn’t even the legal age.
“But none of that fazed him and since he’s come back in, it’s just been an amazing run for him. He was ‘player of the match’ the last day as well.
“To be doing what he’s doing in his first season, few ig any do that. If I’m put on the spot, with Kerry, maybe David Clifford or Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper.
“It’s phenomenal what he’s done. And he’s a player that Kerry are going to have to keep a real close eye on on Sunday.
“Watching the Ulster championship as well, the way he was popping up and getting up the field, there is serious energy there.
“As a defender, I always felt that if you could put the forward on the back foot, turn the tables so to speak, it was a huge thing.
“Kerry forwards are going to have to track Roarty and a few others like him as well”
AIB, proud sponsors of club and county, have been joined by Kerry and Donegal legends Marc Ó Sé and Eamon McGee to preview Sunday’s All-Ireland SFC final
