The Donegal GAA coffers received a much-needed boost this week with confirmation that up to 50 games will be streamed live during the upcoming club championships.
Donegal GAA treasurer, Grace Boyle, confirmed to DonegalLive that StreamSport, a Limerick based company, has signed a three-year deal with Donegal to cover games in the county which will be streamed live all over the world.
The deal, worth in the region of €250,000 over the three year period, will mean that GAA followers who cannot make it to the upcoming championship games will be able to see them live at a very reasonable cost.
StreamSport are a very reputable company who are already leaders in the market covering counties such as Mayo, Galway, Limerick and Clare as well as Munster Rugby.
The first games are to be streamed this weekend from the Donegal Senior Championship with two games on Saturday evening and two more on Sunday. The games selected on Saturday are Killybegs v Termon (5 pm) and Glenswilly v Naomh Conaill (7 pm) while on Sunday St Michael’s v MacCumhaills (2 pm) and St Eunan’s v Kilcar will be streamed at 4 p.m.
“It’s a good deal for the county,” said the treasurer who added that the company have the technology to overcome any broadband issues that might have been a problem in the past.
“There will be packages available for weekends and season packages as well as single games.
“Every club in the county will get a season pass and after each game both clubs will get a copy of the game,” said Boyle, who added that the packages may not be fully available until after this weekend.
“It was only yesterday morning (Tuesday) that we signed off on it, so the pricing is just being finalised. There will be a package for this weekend to get it up and running and after that all the packages will be available.
“The single matches will be available at a price which will never be less than the admission price. We have to protect everybody, especially the clubs.

“We could see last year that 30% of our online customers were from overseas, so that is what we are facilitating. We are not trying to affect any club’s gates. We have people all over the country and all over the world watching,” said Boyle.
“We are very happy with the deal and it’s protecting us for three years as well.”
It is envisaged that games from all the various championships in football, Ladies football and hurling will be available with up to 50 matches in the coming championship season.
