Conor O'Donnell in action for Dungloe
It is one step at a time for Dungloe captain Conor O’Donnell and his teammates after winning their opening two games in this season’s Michael Murphy Senior Football Championship.
The Dungloe captain was speaking in the immediate aftermath of Saturday night’s second round 3-13 to 0-11 win over Killybegs, in Rosses Park.
Dungloe had one point to spare over Downings in the first round in Pairc Na nDúnaibh but it was a more convincing win at home.
“Naturally, we are happy with the win. It is another two points on the board and that was the goal at the start of the day.
Thankfully, we have achieved that and we now move on to the next round,” was the Dungloe captain's response to the win.
Dungloe led by a point, 0-7 to 0-6 at the end of an evenly contested opening 30 plus minutes.
“We were lucky to be a point up at the break. If Killybegs had taken all their chances they could have been well ahead.
“They kicked a number of wides and Danny (Rodgers) pulled off a couple of big saves to deny them a couple of goals.
“Thankfully, after a slow start to the second half, we started to win the ball around the middle of the field and our first goal was a big turning point.
“The goal put us three up again and gave us a real lift and when we scored the second goal shortly after it put us seven up.
“And we really kicked on after that, and while with two point scores you can never relax, we were in control of the game and we controlled the game then to the end.”
But the man who skippered Dungloe to their first county final in 68 years last season insisted there was a lot about the performance they were not happy with.
“There are a lot of things, especially in the middle of the first half, that we are not happy with and we still have a lot to work on for the next day.

“But with two wins we are in a great position, and it is a matter of now getting ready for next weekend and who we get in the draw.”
Dungloe are away to Glenswilly, in round three a repeat of last year’s quarter-final, with the Páirc Naomh Columba men also unbeaten after two games, defeating Naomh Conaill in the first game out and coming from 13 down to draw with Sean MacCumhaills at the weekend.
