Letterkenny Gaels hit five goals as they clinched second place in Group B of the Junior A championship with a big win over Naomh Ultan at the Glebe on Saturday afternoon. 

Ronan Frain and Shay Doherty scored two goals each, and Paddy Doherty scored the other in the 19 point win over the men from Dunkineely, who were also chasing the coveted second place.

A second-place finish earns Letterkenny Gaels a home draw against the third-place team in Group A of the championship.

Midfielder Frain also kicked three points from play for the winners.

Conor McBrearty capped a good performance in attack for the Gaels and ended the game with a personal tally of seven points. 

Brian Diver, Shay Doherty, Diarmuid O’Cathail and Jack Keys also hit points for the winners.

The locals led by seven points at half-time, 2-8 to 0-7, before they went on to dominate the second half to run out convincing winners.

Letterkenny Gaels will now face Robert Emmets, the third-placed team in Group A, while Naomh Ultan will go away to Group A runners-up, St Mary’s, Convoy.

The two group winners, Naomh Brid and Carndonagh, await the winners of those ties in the semi-finals.
