Urris stalwart John Friel has been confirmed as the latest entrant into the Donegal GAA Hall of Fame.
A founder member of the Urris club, John has been at the heartbeat of the Crampsey Park club in a variety of roles.
“John’s contribution to the GAA in Donegal, both at club and county level, spans more than five decades of outstanding service, commitment, and leadership,” a statement announcing that he is to be inducted into the Hall of Fame says.
John has served in every major post in the Urris club. He played for the club and served as team manager for a while.
He also held several administrative posts including chairman, secretary and treasurer.
As a player, he played for the Donegal U21s and he was a long-time referee in the county.
John also operated as a steward at Donegal games for many years and contributed immensely through fundraising issues in the county.
The statement said: “His energy and passion for Urris GAA have been the driving force behind the club’s continued growth and success, inspiring generations of players and volunteers alike.
“John played a key role in securing coaching initiatives in Inishowen schools, helping to strengthen Gaelic games in an area where other sports traditionally held a stronger presence.
