Declan Bonner’s Erne Gaels showed real resilience in extra-time to secure a 3-15 to 1-16 win over Kingscourt Stars in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship quarter-final at Breffni Park.

The Fermanagh side found another gear in the added period, outscoring the Cavan outfit seven points to two.

Kingscourt mounted a spirited second-half comeback led by Cian Shekleton, after early goals from Odhran Johnston, Ultan Kelm, and Jack McCann had sent Erne Gaels into halftime with a dominant 3-4 to 0-3 advantage.

A crucial goal from Cormac Yore and an impressive long-range effort worth two points from Jordan Morris brought the Cavan champions level to force extra time. However, Belleek held firm in the closing stages to clinch their place in the semi-finals.

Speaking after, Bonner admitted that he was just relieved to squeeze through into the last four inside the province.

"It's been one of those years where every game seems to just be a complete battle, it was like that right through the Fermanagh championship.

"We were up against the ropes in the drawn final when Derrygonnelly were five up with a few minutes to and Ederney were six up with about five minutes to go. But we've kept finding a way to get back.

"Tonight was different because we were the ones that were 10 or 11 points up at one stage and in fairness to Kingscourt, we knew they'd fight back because they did that throughout the Cavan championship.

"I'm just proud of the lads character, especially in extra-time."

Gaels will now meet Kilcoo in the Ulster club SFC semi-finals.
