Four Masters 4-18
Sean MacCumhaill's 1-12
A goal after nine seconds from Kevin Muldoon set the pattern in Tirconaill Park as Four Masters cruised into the semi-final of the U-12A championship.
Muldoon availed of a knock-on from the throw-in to glide through and fire to the net. He added a two pointer on three minutes and by the eighth minute he added a second goal after Seanán Carr’s effort came back off the crossbar.
Behind by 2-4 to no score, it was always going to be an uphill task for MacCumhaill’s, who were without the injured Sean Martin and lost full-back Ruairi Callaghan after just five minutes.
The Twin Towns side did finish the first half well with five points, the last effort a good two pointer from Tomás McNulty. However, they were eight points in arrears as Four Masters had amassed 2-9 with Caolan Sweeney and Cian Gavigan among their scorers.
The Donegal Town side, the defending champions, had Conor McCahill in for the second half and he got on the scoresheet within a minute. Tomás and Seanán Carr as well as another from Caolan Sweeney had the margin out to 2-13 to 0-7 by the 35th minute.
A Conor McGinty two pointer was the reply for MacCumhaills but almost immediately Tomás and Turlough Carr produced the opening for Tiarnan McBride to drive home a third goal and McCahill quickly added two points.
To their credit, MacCumhaill’s kept going and Kevin McCormack hit a late goal but it was Four Masters who kept the scoreboard ticking with Conor McCahill creating havoc and setting up Conor Reid for a tap-in fourth goal on the stroke of time.
Conor McGinty, Jamie Gavigan, Andrew Murray, Kevin McCormack and Tomas McNulty tried really hard for the losers.
The winners will be hard to stop given the scoring power they have at the moment and their bench isn’t bad either.
