Conor Reid and his Four Masters colleagues after winning the U-21 title last year
Four Masters are back in the semi-final of the U-21A championship and captain Conor Reid was pretty pleased with the way they performed against an understrength MacCumhaill’s on Sunday last.
In the end the Donegal Town boys had plenty to spare in the 4-18 to 1-12 win with skipper Reid among the goalscorers.
“Happy enough. I think that was the first time we had a full team out all year, just between minors and boys injured. We had Conor (McCahill) on the bench today to give him a bit of rest.
“No, reaching the semi-final was our aim. We put up a big enough score but they (MacCumhaill’s) still made it tight; they are a big physical team and it was a tough enough win in the end,” said Conor Reid.
Four Masters got off to the perfect start with Kevin Muldoon speeding towards goal from the throw-in to fire home the opening goal on nine seconds.
“I suppose any time you have Kevin Muldoon’s pace you can look for a goal anytime. It was a nice way to start.”
What makes the Donegal Town boys so formidable is that they have serious scoring power.
“Ah, yeah, it’s great. You know when you send the ball up to the forwards you are going to get something out of it every time. It’s nice. There is some talent up there between the Carrs, Conor McCahill, anyone who comes off the bench. Oisin Doherty, who came on there, would have played a big part in it last year for us. So he is coming back from an injury. We have so much power up there, it’s delightful.”
MacCumhaill’s were short big Sean Martin and they lost two of their full-back line in the opening half to injury and on top of that a couple of others were just back from injury including Kevin McCormack and Conor McGinty.
“We had a very good start and then we went into a bit of a slump 10 minutes before half-time. We were kinda disappointed about that and they got a big two pointer at the end of the first half.
“We came out in the second half and said we would have to get our authority in the game.”

Reid’s team are now back in the last four and in a strong position to defend the title they won last year.
“If we could repeat it again, what we did last year would be brilliant. We will just look forward to the semi-final. I don’t know if some of the boys have a Mac Rory game or what. We will try to get boys rested for that,” he said.
Conor Reid is one of a number of the team that are studying in DCU in Dublin. Conor and Seanán Carr are on the Sigerson panel while Callum McCrea, Kevin Muldoon and Turlough Carr are part of the Freshers team.
