Eoghan Ban McNelis says Ardara picking up silverware right at the tail end of the season means a lot to the club.

The Player of the Match in Saturday’s 2-19 to 1-20 win over Glenfin at the Burn Road landed a personal haul of 1-8 in that victory.

And the fine Ardara showing that turned up to cheer their side on certainly got their money’s worth.

“It was a serious battle and we’re just glad to get over the line,” said McNelis after. “They got off to a great start but we found a reply. But any time we seemed to be getting a foothold back they came as well.

“It really did swing end to end and it was a great game to play in”.

With McNelis goaling right away after the break, Ardara’s slender half-time lead eventually moved out to six at 1-15 to 1-9.

But Frank McGlynn’s team took a real stranglehold on midfield and, squeezing up on the Ardara kickout, rattled off five points on the trot to narrow matters back to a single point once more.

But McNelis stemmed the tide with a huge two-pointer, and with Kyle McHugh goaling immediately after, Ardara were back in the driving seat once more.

“It’s hard to win that breaking ball around the middle, and they just got that purple patch. We needed to just get our hands on one, and thankfully, we did that.

“I think it was Michael Mulreany that managed to do that and it was a big moment. Besides that, I thought we did really well in terms of the game plan and what Adrian Brennan asked of us.

“We know we have scorers that if we get them on the ball, in the right positions, we could do well. We took our scores well, probably left a few behind as well but 2-19 is a great return.

“The goals when they came, they were big moments, especially Kyle McHugh’s one and we were just glad to be able to hold them off.

“This means a huge deal to the group, the management and the parents and supporters, as you could see there after”.
