Carn GAA to play St Stephen’s Day charity hurling match in memory of JJ Lafferty

Carndonagh GAA’s annual St Stephen’s Day Charity Game will take place this year in memory of the late JJ Lafferty, a towering figure in hurling in the club and across Donegal.

The event, hosted by Carndonagh GAA, will see the club’s senior hurling and camogie teams come together for a mixed challenge match, with all current and former players invited to take part. Throw-in is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, December 26, at 1.30pm.

All proceeds from the day will go to the Oncology Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital, with organisers encouraging as many players and spectators as possible to attend. Kind weather is forecast, and that will hopefully encourage a good turnout. A raffle will also be held on the day, with tickets also available to purchase online through the Carndonagh GAA Clubspot app.

JJ Lafferty passed away in October while undergoing cancer treatment. He was widely regarded as a driving force behind the promotion and development of hurling in Carndonagh and throughout the county. A highly respected referee, coach and administrator, JJ coached Carn teams at all levels and played a key role in sourcing and appointing referees across Donegal.

JJ is survived by his wife Nuala and sons Conor, Oran and Cian.
