Mark McHugh will have to wait another while to take charge of his first competitive game with Westmeath after their O’Byrne Cup opener was postponed.

The Kilcar man was due to make his first step into intercounty management today, but the Lake County’s round one match against Longford was postponed following a pitch inspection.

A Donegal All-Ireland winner from 2012, McHugh previously served as coach alongside Dermot McCabe at the 2022 Tailteann Cup winners.

He was appointed manager in September, with Emmet McDonnell of Coralstown Kinnegad serving as assistant manager and selector, while Tyrone duo Ryan Daly and Stephen 'Archie' Beattie joined as head coach/selector and coach respectively. Jamie Gunoud of Tyrrellspass is also in as a selector, while Tom Gribben from Armagh is head of performance.

The winners of the match between the pair were due to face Louth in the quarter-final on Wednesday, January 7, but the match will now have to be rescheduled due to the frozen pitch at Pearse Park.
